mlive.com: Traffic in the city of Ann Arbor has increased significantly, one-way signs are in effect and there is a buzz in the air with the return of students to the University of Michigan. Students began moving into their dorms on Wednesday, Aug. 30 and will continue to unpack their things into the weekend as they prepare for the first day of the fall semester on Sept. 5.

ucsc.edu: An international training program for the Thirty Meter Telescope (TMT) project brought more than 40 graduate students and postdoctoral researchers to UC Santa Cruz in August for an eight-day scientific and technical workshop. Workshop participants, representing all of the TMT International Observatory's partners (Canada, China, India, Japan, UC, and Caltech), worked on projects in small teams, visited astronomical laboratory facilities, toured Lick Observatory, and met with numerous scientists and engineers involved in TMT.

Sunshine State News: School choice advocate and U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos made two stops in Tallahassee this week, visiting a public and private school on Tuesday. DeVos spent the morning at Holy Comforter Episcopal School, a private Christian school, and then made a stop at Florida State University School Tuesday afternoon. An “A” rated public school, FSU High School is affiliated with the Tallahassee-based university’s School of Education.

Pittsburgh Post-Gazette : Petcash, a standout 6-foot-4 guard who graduated from Pine-Richland High School in June, has accepted a scholarship to Boston and will leave for the New England area school Wednesday. Boston plays in the Patriot League and has made the NCAA tournament and NIT in the past six seasons.
